‘Parasite’ and ‘Memories of Murder’ From Bong Joon Ho to Join Criterion Collection

February 14, 2020 Jordan Ruimy

Two indisputably great Bong Joon Ho movies have been announced as special edition Criterion releases, [via TheWrap]. “Memories of a Murder” and the Best Picture-winning “Parasite” will both be joining the Criterion collection. ‘Memories,’ especially. is a film that has been severely underrated for almost two decades. It may very well represent Bong’s most accomplished movie, yes, maybe better than “Parasite.” Neon is planning on doing a theatrical re-release of “Memories of Murder,” set for sometime later this year.

PARASITE is actually not Bong Joon ho's best movie, that would be 2003's MEMORIES OF A MURDER.

As for Criterion, the just-released special editions for Netflix’s “Roma,” “The Irishman,” and “Marriage Story,” not to mention the addition of Neon’s critically acclaimed 2019 hit “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” Criterion’s been clearly starting to concentrate more and more on recent releases, maybe due to the advent of streaming completely killing the ‘home video” format. Anyway, I’m all for this new approach from them.
