First ‘Wonder Woman 1984' Trailer Has Gal Gadot Literally Riding Lightning

December 8, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

It took Patty Jenkins over a decade to direct her second feature film, yet her $8 million indie debut "Monster" out-grossed Colin Trevorrow's pre-Jurassic Park movie, Jordan Vogt-Roberts' pre-King Kong movie, and Peter Jackson's pre-LOTR movies. Combined. "Monster" won Charlize Theron the Best Actress Oscar in 2004. The fact that Jenkins went 13 years without directing another feature film, despite having an Oscar-winning film in her hands, speaks volumes about Hollywood's problem with gender equality.

The massive success "Wonder Woman" had two summers ago must have given Jenkins a sweet feeling of revenge on the industry. The film turned out to be the second highest-grossing movie of 2017, was met with rave reviews and a sequel has not only already been greenlit, but finished shooting just last month, with Jenkins and star Gal Gadot returning for more pesos.

As for the “Wonder Woman 1984” trailer; Is that Gal Gadot literally riding lightning?!

I thought the first “Wonder Woman” was, mostly, fine. Gadot and Chris Pine’s scenes were solid, but, given the fact that this was a DCEU movie, there wasn’t much risk involved in the storytelling. Robin Wright‘s Antiope was unfathomable, ditto Connie Nielsen‘s Hippolyta. Danny Huston‘s Erich Ludendorff and David Thewlis’ were underwhelming as well.

"Wonder Woman" is set for a June 5th, 2020 release date.
