The head of the National Association of Theater Owners, John Fithian, spoke about the latest “Tenet” delay, and, lo and behold, he is angry beyond belief with Warner Bros.’ decision to push Christopher Nolan’s film beyond summer 2020 [via Variety].

I do not really like Martin Scorsese’s "Kundun,” despite multiple watches, it’s one of the few duds of the prolific filmmaker’s career (right up there with “New York, New York” and “Boxcar Bertha"). Its narrative moves like molasses and the drama is static. Scorsese has called it a passion project, he’s a deeply-ingrained Buddhist so telling the story of Dalai Lama is as religious an experience as he will likely have behind the camera.

For a while now, we’ve known that Paul Thomas Anderson was hard at work on a new film. Back in April, it was revealed that Leonardo DiCaprio had passed on this mysterious new project in favor of working with Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Valley,” which he then dropped out of because he wanted to work with Martin Scorsese on “Killers of the Flower Moon”.

As was anticipated, the COVID-19 pandemic tied Warner Bros’. hands too tightly as they have gone ahead and delayed Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet,” yet again. Except, this time, there is no new release date. By all accounts, “Tenet” is delayed indefinitely.

‘Ammonite’ Director Francis Lee Not Happy His Film Might Not Screen in Theaters
There is no reason to cower and hide frustration with your local government. It is perfectly okay to be upset that lockdowns are happening, and that movie theaters are still shut down, with no concrete plan about when they’ll actually reopen. Don’t let anybody shame you in thinking otherwise, it is your given right to express your discontent towards this matter.

I’ve been holding off on reviewing “Hamilton” because, quite frankly, I couldn’t care less about it. Director Thomas Kali’s filmed stage play isn’t really cinema, it’s more like a filmed 160-minute document of the critically-acclaimed Broadway show. To call this a movie would do the entire art form a disservice, hell, it’s not even a documentary, it’s more like a digital video recording of a 2016 stage performance.
Read moreIndustry Expert Predicts Movie Theaters Will Remain Closed Until Mid-2021
Uhhh, if theaters stay closed until mid-2021, then you can kiss cinema and movie chains such as AMC goodbye. The industry as a whole is already in massive debt. At some point, studios are going to seriously need to consider a way to make money without relying on box office earnings. We are headed towards every awards contender being screened this fall.

There is absolutely no way this movie gets released this summer.
“Nolan’s film would need to gross $800 million worldwide in order to break even in theaters. At this writing, of course, that’s impossible as most domestic theaters are closed — and, as COVID-19 outbreaks continue to spike, it seems increasingly likely that they may stay that way for the foreseeable future.” [via IndieWire]
Netflix to Release ‘The Devil All the Time' in September
Today comes the news that Campos’ film will be released by Netflix on September 16th. The streaming giant couldn’t give a rat’s ass about the pandemic, they are relentless in the amount of streaming content they have greenlit for release these past few months. Their fall lineup is stacked with heavy-hitting titles such as David Fincher’s “Mank,” “Charlie Kaufman’s “I’m Thinking of Ending Things,” Ron Howard’s “Hillbilly Elegy,” and Ben Wheatley’’s “Rebecca.”

If you take a look at Bruce Willis' IMDb page now and the work he's done in the past couple of years, it's all straight-to-video. “Once Upon A Time In Venice,” “Marauders,” the list goes on, almost all of them receiving poor reviews and largely ignored by audiences alike. In fact, the last time Willis had decent box office and positive reviews was more than 8 years ago when Wes Anderson's “Moonrise Kingdom” and Rian Johnson's “Looper” were released in the same year.

Movies about World War II can be brutal, especially if they are set in rural-ravaged Eastern Europe and have a child protagonist rummaging through the chaos. There’s always been something about that time and setting that exudes total and utter dread. The most well-known examples would be “Come and See,” and Tarkovsky’s “Ivan’s Childhood” which set the bar quite high.

Read more2020 Telluride Film Festival is Officially Canceled
The Telluride Film Festival has been canceled. I broke the news yesterday and then, less than 24 hours after the fact, the plug was officially pulled. I can’t say I blame the organizers for doing this, there were too many obstacles to overcome for this fest to actually have its 2020 edition occur.
Viola Davis Believes ‘The Help' Was “Created in the Filter and the Cesspool of Systemic Racism.”
In light of the George Floyd killing and the worldwide protests, “The Help” quickly became the most-streamed movie on Netflix, but the reaction to that news has been of backlash and disappointment because, well, much like “Driving Miss Daisy,” Tate Taylor’s Oscar-winning film is a sugarcoated version of racism.
