A week or so ago, Page Six Hollywood ran a story claiming that Inde Navarrette had turned down a role in Michael Mann’s “Heat 2” in favor of playing Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming “X-Men.” The story spread like wildfire, and it arrived just weeks after Navarrette had told THR that she had met with Mann for a key role in the sequel.
I’m told, however, that people close to “Heat 2” were none too pleased with the story, or Navarrette mentioning the Mann meeting — and some wanted to set the record straight. A person with knowledge of the situation, who suspects Navarrette’s reps may have helped leak the “Heat 2” narrative to Page Six, tells me that while the actress did indeed audition for the film, she was never actually cast — and, according to this source, never came close to being offered a role in the first place.
There’s no question that Navarrette is suddenly one of Hollywood’s hottest young actresses, following the breakout success of “Obsession,” but I’m told Page Six’s original report, which characterized Navarrette as having been “wooed” for “Heat 2,” may have been pure narrative engineering on the part of her team. If the account I’m hearing is accurate, Navarrette didn’t turn down “Heat 2” for “X-Men” because there was never a “Heat 2” offer to turn down.
