According to Variety, a sequel to “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” is happening over at Paramount. The plan is to have both Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey return to reprise their roles.
Plot details for “How to Lose a Guy 2” are still being developed, but the original 2003 film centered on magazine writer Andie Anderson and advertising executive Benjamin Barry, whose competing schemes unexpectedly turned into true love. The film earned nearly $180M worldwide against a $50M budget.
McConaughey recently said that “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” is still the movie that pays him the most in residuals—the ongoing “mailbox money” he receives from the film being shown, streamed, rented, etc. He called it “the gift that keeps on giving” and said it pays him the best of any movie he’s ever made. He did not disclose a specific dollar amount for those checks, but estimates have ranged anywhere between $40K–$50K a month.
The news of the sequel comes as Hollywood continues to embrace Aughts nostalgia, with revivals and sequels seemingly all the rage these days. “The Mummy 4,” “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “Shrek 5,” “Practical Magic 2,” “Freaky Friday 2,” “Scary Movie 6,” “The Princess Diaries 3” and “National Treasure 3” are all either recently released or currently in the works.
