Jason Statham’s ‘Mutiny’ Accidentally Streams on Prime Video Ahead of Theatrical Release

August 19, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

Whoops! Jason Statham’s upcoming action film “Mutiny” was briefly available to stream in full on Prime Video today, despite being officially scheduled to hit theaters on Friday.

The 95-minute film was fully playable, and its Prime Video listing was populated with cast information, artwork, and a synopsis. After being available to stream for more than two hours, it has since been removed and now displays as unavailable.

There is zero indication that this was intentional or some kind of marketing stunt. Just a major screwup on the part of Amazon/MGM. “Mutiny” is actually distributed in the U.S. by Lionsgate, which makes the situation even more embarrassing for Amazon. I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole film leaks online because of this hiccup.

This also came at the same time the film’s review embargo lifted, with the movie currently sitting at 44% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 52 on Metacritic. In other words, this is another mindless Jason Statham vehicle, made on the cheap, where he has to punch, shoot, and bludgeon his way through a paper-thin plot that exists mostly to string together a series of increasingly ridiculous action sequences.

In “Mutiny,” Statham plays Cole Reed, a man whose billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, only for Cole to be framed for the crime and forced to go on the run while uncovering an international conspiracy.

Whine all you want, but Statham remains a draw at the box office. His films are made fairly cheaply, sometimes for less than a mid-budget production, released almost every January or February—and, for some reason, this one is getting a late-August dump—and they usually end up turning a decent profit. What more could a studio head ask for? His credits include “The Meg,” “The Beekeeper,” “The Mechanic,” and “A Working Man.”

That said, not all Statham movies are bad. I recommend “Wrath of Man” (2021), as well as “The Bank Job,” “The Italian Job”—and, of course, “Crank,” which will always hold a dear place in my heart for being one of the most gloriously unhinged movies ever made.
