A few months ago, Inde Navarrette was relatively unknown. Now, the 25-year-old actress is starring in a Marvel franchise and has reportedly been turning down co-starring roles opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale.
Yep, Page Six Hollywood has learned that before Navarrette hopped aboard to play Rogue in the next “X-Men,” she was being wooed by Michael Mann to star in “Heat 2,” which is scheduled to begin its six-month shoot this fall.
Navarrette turned it down due to her “commitment” to the upcoming “X-Men” and is no longer in contention to play Sharlene, a character originated by Ashley Judd in the 1995 crime classic.
If she wants a big fat paycheck, residuals, and to be stuck in Marvelized IP land, then I guess Navarrette made the right decision.
It’s apparently not just “Heat 2” that Navarrette has turned down. She also passed on a role that would have paid her $2.5 million for a horror movie directed by Mattias Hoehne. A prominent producer tells Page Six Hollywood, “She is on everyone’s short list right now,” with the actress reportedly turning down mid-seven-figure offers.
And that’s before we get to the Oscar buzz: Navarrette could find herself in the awards conversation for “Obsession,” the Curry Barker-directed horror breakout that has become one of the most profitable films ever made. She was reportedly paid only around $20,000 for the indie horror film, and an awards campaign is now being mounted by Focus Features.
It’s been clear all summer that the runaway success of “Obsession” has put 25-year-old Navarrette in an enviable position. Suddenly, major film roles are coming her way, and Hollywood is paying attention. If she wanted to build a serious acting career, the smart move would have been to carefully choose her next projects and use the momentum from “Obsession” to establish herself as a major movie star — rather than jumping straight into a superhero franchise.
Navarrette, however, appears to have chosen the Marvel money, franchise exposure, and presumably the massive global audience that comes with it. If that’s the career lane she wants, then so be it. The choice has been made.
The MPA has unveiled its latest batch of ratings, and a pair of high-profile titles are seemingly done with post-production work.
