The only other “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” star returning for David Fincher’s ‘Cliff Booth’ sequel, aside from Brad Pitt, is Timothy Olyphant, who portrayed real-life actor James Stacy.
Olyphant is now teasing what fans can expect from ‘Cliff Booth.’ Having seen the film, he says the sequel strikes a “cool mix” of both Fincher’s and Tarantino’s filmmaking styles.
It’s such a cool mix. It is a Quentin movie through and through. You hear that dialogue [..] And so it has that, but then Fincher brings this… He puts such a stamp on it, the look of it, the feel of it, the music… It’s so clearly a Fincher film. And so to see those two things sort of bouncing off each other at once? It’s pretty cool.
A combination of Fincher and Tarantino’s styles has the potential to produce something truly unique. Tarantino’s character-driven dialogue and stylized violence could blend well with Fincher’s knack for obsessively crafted visuals, grim tension, and atmosphere. It could become a distinctive cinematic experience—or a schizoid blend of two very different filmmaking approaches. Hard to predict.
In addition to Pitt and Olyphant, ‘Cliff Booth’ features an ensemble cast that includes Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Holt McCallany, and others.
After Tarantino abandoned project “The Movie Critic,” he wrote an entirely different film, which ultimately became ‘Cliff Booth.’ However, according to cinematographer Robert Richardson, as the film entered pre-production, it was delayed due to Brad Pitt’s commitment to “F1.” That extra time reportedly left Tarantino questioning whether he still wanted to direct the project, ultimately leading him to hand it over to Fincher.
No plot details have leaked about the $200M+ costing ‘Cliff Booth’ except that it’s set to take place a few years after Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.” Fincher’s go-to DP Erik Messerschmidt is taking the cinematographer on this one, replacing ‘Hollywood’ DP Robert Richardson
‘Cliff Booth’ will be released exclusively in IMAX on November 25, 2026. It will then begin streaming on Netflix a month later, on December 23, 2026.
