According to Deadline, Regina Hall has joined Dwayne Johnson, Alicia Silverstone, Tim Heidecker, and fourth-grader Theo Leber in Benny Safdie’s “Lizard Music,” an adaptation of Daniel Pinkwater’s 1976 novel for Amazon/MGM Studios and United Artists.
This marks Safdie and Johnson’s follow-up to last year’s “The Smashing Machine.” The live-action/CGI hybrid follows a young boy, played by Leber, who discovers a mysterious late-night broadcast featuring lizards making strange, otherworldly music. His curiosity leads him to a hidden world and an unusual friendship with The Chicken Man, an eccentric older man portrayed by Johnson, and his 111-year-old chicken companion, Claudia. Hall will play the friend and co-worker of Johnson’s character.
Hall is a great addition—a stellar actress who will bring immense talent to “Lizard Music.” My favorite performance of hers is in Andrew Bujalski’s underseen 2018 gem “Support the Girls.” Last year, Hall had a supporting role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another.”
“Lizard Music,” which is scheduled to shoot in August, is eyeing a 2027 release via Amazon/MGM Studios.
