Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Scores 2026’s Biggest Monday With $18M+

July 21, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

Ticket demand for Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has not slowed down — many areas have 70mm IMAX showings booked through August, and judging by its Monday tally, the film appears poised for a strong second-weekend hold.

“The Odyssey” is not behaving like a normal blockbuster, but rather like a major theatrical event. The film earned around $18M+ on Monday, making it the biggest Monday of 2026 so far.

These numbers come after its $124.5M domestic and $264M worldwide opening, marking Nolan’s biggest global opening ever. Premium formats, especially IMAX, have been a major driver, with fans actively seeking out large-format screenings rather than simply watching wherever seats are available.

A $450M+ domestic finish is becoming a realistic possibility. The main factors working in its favor are Nolan’s strong repeat-viewing audience, excellent word of mouth, and a lack of immediate competition — with no major wide release arriving next weekend.

Things will become more interesting once “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” hits theaters two Fridays from now, as that film is currently tracking toward a massive PG-13-friendly $250M+ domestic opening ..

Yet, as mentioned, “The Odyssey” screenings are completely booked in many major cities for weeks to come, which should help Nolan’s film weather the competition.

The strength of Christopher Nolan as a box office draw should no longer be debated. He has transitioned from delivering major hits for Warner Bros. to becoming a major asset for Universal Pictures. If anyone else had directed “Oppenheimer” and “The Odyssey,” the numbers likely would not have come close to this level.
