After yesterday’s report that Bradley Cooper was eyeing a lead role in the Danny McBride-written “G.I. Joe” movie, word has now come that McBride will also be directing, which has been confirmed by numerous sources.
This will be McBride’s feature directorial debut. Most of his experience as a director comes from helming episodes of “Eastbound & Down” and “The Righteous Gemstones,” both of which he co-created and starred in. He is more experienced as a screenwriter, having written “The Foot Fist Way,” “Your Highness,” and Blumhouse’s rebooted “Halloween” trilogy.
A few months ago, Paramount hired both McBride and Max Landis to develop separate “G.I. Joe” scripts. The studio ultimately chose McBride’s take, which is now moving forward and could potentially begin shooting at the end of the year.
