The ensemble keeps growing.
Joe Alwyn, who starred in “The Brutalist,” is set to reteam with Brady Corbet on “The Origin of the World,” which is now expected to begin production in September.
This means Alwyn would be joining Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, and Selena Gomez, all of whom were previously reported as part of the cast. More intriguingly, by all indications, English actress Sadie Soverall (“Every Year After”), who is still relatively unknown, has the actual lead role in “The Origin of the World.”
Alwyn is best known for his work in Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Favourite” and “Kinds of Kindness.” More recently, he starred in Chloé Zhao’s “Hamnet” and will soon be seen in Tomas Alfredson’s “Séance on a Wet Afternoon” and Sam Esmail’s “Panic Carefully,” opposite Elizabeth Olsen and Julia Roberts. Both films are currently in post-production.
According to Corbet, “The Origin of the World” is “about American mysticism and the history of the occult in America,” though much of the project remains shrouded in mystery. The filmmaker has previously confirmed that he is working from an “X-rated” 200-page script that would run approximately four hours.
“The film spans from the 19th century into the present day — it’s just predominantly focused on the ’70s. The film is really, really genre-defying,” the director told THR.
This will mark Corbet’s fourth feature following “The Childhood of a Leader,” “Vox Lux,” and “The Brutalist,” the latter of which earned 10 Oscar nominations and won three, including Best Actor (Adrien Brody), Best Cinematography (Lol Crawley), and Best Original Score (Daniel Blumberg). Blumberg is returning to score “The Origin of the World.”
