Finally, after much hoopla, we’ll finally get our first look at Tom Cruise’s transformation tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. ET, when the trailer for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “Digger” hits online.
No nearly three-minute Cruise montage followed by a 30-second tease like we got a few weeks ago. Nope—an actual trailer. I suspect this will be the same footage CinemaCon saw in April, which was met with total bewilderment by those I spoke to. That’s a similar reaction to how the test screenings are currently going for the film.
What a high-risk project this is for Warner Bros. It reportedly has a production budget of $125M, but some industry insiders, like Matt Belloni, swear it’s much higher, with figures pushing toward $200M. This is the big 2027 Oscar play for Warner Bros, who dominated the last ceremony with “One Battle After Another” and “Sinners.” This year, it looks like it’ll be “Digger” and “Dune: Part II.”
At any rate, the first look is coming tomorrow. They are giving “Digger” the same rollout as OBAA, which means that it will be skipping the fall festivals entirely. The film is set for an October 2 release date.
