Kenji Tanigaki, fresh off the breakout success of “The Furious,” has lined up his next directorial effort, “The Reckoner.” The project will be directed by Tanigaki and written by “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad, with Peter Dinklage attached to star in a role that is being kept under wraps.
Lionsgate has closed a deal for “The Reckoner,” following its acquisition of “The Furious” out of last year’s TIFF. Anthony and Joe Russo are on board to produce. A 2026 shoot is a possibility, and Dinklage’s involvement is expected to be a notable draw.
“The Furious” was critically acclaimed, earning an 85 on Metacritic, with praise for its intense choreography and tightly constructed action. Directed by Tanigaki, the film follows a man whose daughter is kidnapped by a criminal network, triggering a violent cross-country pursuit alongside an ally with his own personal loss.
The film has grossed $31M worldwide, including $24M from China. Domestically, it earned $6M in a wide rollout that initially played on 1200+ screens. A VOD release is set for July 14.
