A final trailer, clocking in at nearly 3 minutes, for Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day finally gives us a more in-depth plot after a string of teases. I’ve sensed our readers have been split so far on this film—has this meatier trailer changed your opinion? It was recently confirmed that the film is an ambitious 145 minutes.
There’s no reason for me to doubt Steven Spielberg; he has stacked up the classics over the years, and giving him the benefit of the doubt here is the right thing to do. That said, what’s up with the VFX? I get the film “only” cost $115M, which is honestly not too high for a major studio-produced alien invasion blockbuster, but you’d think they’d find a way to refine the effects a little more.
Regardless, there’s also another look at the aliens in the film; snapshots have been posted below. What’s most intriguing about this film is Spielberg having previously revealed that marketing was purposely hiding “the entire third act of Disclosure Day.”
The film centers on the hidden presence of extraterrestrials living among humans, with Colin Firth’s character trying to conceal the truth using advanced mind-linked technology while fearing global disruption if it’s exposed. Colin Firth plays that role, while Emily Blunt’s character exhibits strange, unexplained behaviors as she seeks to uncover the truth, and Josh O’Connor’s character claims he can interpret her signals.
The trailer also has various animals: deer, cardinals, goats, raccoons, and others appear repeatedly and act unnaturally, often staring directly at humans on screen.
The ensemble cast includes Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes, with Steven Spielberg crafting the film’s original sci-fi concept alongside longtime collaborator and screenwriter David Koepp (“Jurassic Park”).
Ever since 2008’s “War of the Worlds,” Steven Spielberg has largely stayed away from sci-fi, only returning once with “Ready Player One”—just a single film in 17 years. Spielberg has mostly focused on prestige dramas, including “Lincoln,” “Bridge of Spies,” “War Horse,” “The Post,” and “The Fabelmans.”
Disclosure Day hits theaters on June 12.
