Kristoffer Borgli’s “The Drama,” starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, opened last night. Around $1.7M in Thursday previews for the A24-produced film, which has a budget of $25M. A $10-$12M weekend is being projected.
Meanwhile, “The Super Mario Bros Galaxy Movie” continues to rack up the dough. That’s a $24M Thursday and a $60M domestic haul in just two days. It is currently on track for $180–200M by Sunday evening.
Continuing on, “Project Hail Mary” will finish in second place this weekend. It amassed $4.6M on Thursday. The film sits at $185M domestic and $340M worldwide. Word of mouth has turned this $200M-costing movie into a leg-driven hit.
A brief note on Pixar’s “Hoppers”: it’s hanging in there. The film earned $1M on Thursday and has just crossed the $300M worldwide mark. Not bad, but nowhere near “Elemental” numbers, which remains Pixar’s best-performing original this decade with a nearly $500M global tally.
