RUMOR: Anya Taylor-Joy to Star in ‘The Hunt For Gollum’

March 8, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

More potential casting for Andy Serkis’ “The Hunt for Gollum,” which seems to be heating up, a little less than eight weeks before production is set to begin.

Apparently, DanielRPK has seen a casting grid that has Anya Taylor-Joy in talks to star in this latest ‘Lord of the Rings.’ No word yet on which part she’s up for, but she could definitely pull off playing one of the elves.

Taylor-Joy is best known for her standout roles in both film and television. She gained widespread acclaim for her breakthrough performance in Robert Eggers’ “The Witch.” She then starred in M. Night Shyamalan’s “Split” and its follow-up “Glass.” However, she captured global attention as the chess prodigy Beth Harmon in the Netflix miniseries “The Queen’s Gambit,” and has since joined Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ franchise.

This latest update comes 24 hours after a report claiming that Leo Woodall was going to replace Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn. “The Hunt for Gollum” is confirmed to star Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, and Andy Serkis. No word yet on whether franchise stars Orlando Bloom, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, and Liv Tyler will follow suit.

“The Hunt for Gollum” is set during the “The Fellowship of the Ring” era, shortly before Frodo Baggins leaves the Shire for Rivendell. The film starts with Gandalf sending Aragorn on a quest to find Gollum.

Production is set to begin on the film in New Zealand this coming May, and rumor has it that it might actually be the start of a whole new LOTR trilogy. We’ve already had two trilogies: the first being the iconic films released in 2001, 2002, and 2003, and the other being the much‑divisive ‘Hobbit’ releases.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027.
