We’re exactly a week away from the Oscars, and tonight the last remaining major guild announced its awards. After the producers (PGA), directors (DGA), and actors (SAG) had their say, it was the writers’ turn.
No surprise: “One Battle After Another” and “Sinners” won the prizes for Adapted Screenplay and Original Screenplay, respectively, at the 2026 WGA Awards. These results further confirm that it’s indeed a two-way race between these films for the Best Picture Oscar.
Now, let’s please finally put this awards season to rest; with the Oscars occurring much later than usual this year—March 15—it’s time for the Academy to go back to a February broadcast. It’s been such a long season that a recent poll of Americans had over 50% of respondents thinking this year’s Oscars had already happened.
