A sequel to “The Wild Robot” is officially moving forward at DreamWorks Animation — officially titled “The Wild Robot Escapes” (via The Wrap).
Chris Sanders is returning to write the script but won’t be directing this time around. Instead, Troy Quane and Heidi Jo Gilbert are set to helm the film. Quane was one of the directors behind the Oscar-nominated “Nimona,” and Gilbert worked as head of story on the first film.
The sequel will be based on the second book in author Peter Brown’s series, which follows Roz and her bird-son Brightbill as they try to escape a dairy farm and return to their island.
Released in 2024, “The Wild Robot” was a critical and commercial success, grossing $334M worldwide. It also went on to earn three Oscar nominations, including Best Animated Feature.
