After many delays, David Robert Mitchell’s “The End of Oak Street” (previously ‘Flowervale Street’) has released a trailer. What do you think?
The film, which clocks in at 100 minutes, stars Ewan McGregor Anne Hathaway, Christian Convery, and Maisy Stella. Set in a calm suburban neighborhood during the 1980s, the story centers on a family going through a difficult period. The narrative mainly follows the mother, who begins imagining what life might look like if she left her husband and children behind to start over. Without warning, their entire community — Flowervale’s Oak Street — is mysteriously transported back to prehistoric times by an unknown supernatural phenomenon.
Suddenly surrounded by dinosaurs and other ancient creatures, the residents must fight to stay alive as they are hunted in this dangerous new environment, while searching for a way to survive and return home.
Based on a few test reactions I gathered last year, the film seems to revolve around tense survival scenarios, as the family struggles to find their way back home. It’s been likened to a Spielbergian adventure: “PG-13 danger meets ‘E.T.’ style wonder, with a ‘Jurassic Park’ level of thrills. Hathaway is the standout, having loads of fun with the part she’s playing.
Mitchell, known best for the decade-defining horror “It Follows,” and whose last film was released eight years ago (“Under the Silver Lake”), is set to have a busy year as he is also slated to shoot “They Follow” in early summer, with Maika Monroe returning as the lead.
“The End of Oak Street” is set to hit theaters August 14, 2026 via Warner Bros.
