Jonah Hill returns to the director’s chair with the Hollywood-set dark comedy “Outcome,” which is being produced by Apple Original Films. The film was shot in early 2024 and has finally been dated by Apple.
“Outcome” will be sent straight to streaming with an April 10 debut on Apple TV. Curiously, that’s three months before Hill’s other directorial effort, the Warner Bros. comedy “Cut Off,” hits theaters.
“Outcome” stars Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz, and Matt Bomer, and features Martin Scorsese, David Spade, Kaia Gerber, Laverne Cox, and Susan Lucci. The film is based on a script Hill co-wrote with first-time screenwriter Ezra Woods.
Apple has already released first-look images from the film, which can be seen below; they include Reeves, Diaz, and Bomer.
The film focuses on Reef (Reeves), a damaged Hollywood star who must dive into the dark depths of his past to confront his demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video with the potential to destroy his career.
“Outcome” was one of the nine films I included in last year’s “missing” list—titles that have been delayed and still not been dated. Since then, “Faces of Death,” “At the Sea,” “Rosebush Pruning,” and now “Outcome” have been set up with 2026 premieres.
Hill last directed the 2018 skateboard drama “Mid90s” for A24. It garnered good reviews, and I found the film to be a slight but wholly authentic coming-of-age movie—a solid debut. It’ll be interesting to see what Hill has in store for us with these two films coming out this year, both of which seem to be veering far away from the slice-of-life approach of “Mid90s.”
