Reviews are finally in for Kevin Williamson’s “Scream 7,” which begins Thursday previews this afternoon — and the response is exactly what I hinted at yesterday. The film is strictly by-the-books, with stiff, wooden filmmaking.
With 30 reviews counted, the movie sits at 43% on Rotten Tomatoes, the lowest score of the franchise to date, matching “Scream 3.”Meanwhile, that 38 on Metacritic is a franchise worst, besting “Scream 4” at 52.
No worries for Paramount: even if “Scream 7” is earning the worst reviews in the franchise, it’s still tracking for a franchise-best $50M opening weekend. Meanwhile, Williamson shared at the film’s premiere that he and Neve Campbell are already working on “Scream 8.”
