Craig Zobel Reunites With Blumhouse to Direct ‘Something Is Killing the Children'

Craig Zobel is going back to Blumhouse. He is set to helm the feature adaptation of "Something Is Killing the Children," the horror comic from James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera. The news broke Friday at New York ComicCon's Blumfest.

Back in 2019, Zobel's Blumhouse thriller "The Hunt," about liberal elites hunting so-called “deplorables,” became a political lightning rod before it even opened — then the pandemic happened, theaters shut down, and the film’s release was largely ignored.

"Something Is Killing the Children" has sold more than 5M copies, making it the most successful original horror comic since "The Walking Dead." It's been translated into over 20 languages. The story tackles Erica Slaughter, a monster hunter who arrives in the small town of Archer's Peak, where children have been going missing and turning up dead. Erica works for the secretive Order of St. George, and she knows something the adults don't: the monsters are real, and only kids can see them

Zobel broke out with "Compliance" (excellent) and "Z for Zachariah" (fine) before building an excellent prestige TV résumé: "The Leftovers," "Westworld," "Mare of Easttown," and most recently, his strong work on "The Penguin." He's a DGA nominee and three-time Emmy nominee. Up next, “Turpentine,” a Black List thriller starring Melissa McCarthy and Connor Storrie about a deadbeat son who has his friends rob his own parents, which just wrapped.
