‘The Death of Robin Hood’ Trailer: Hugh Jackman Leads A24’s Dark, Gritty Reimagining

January 6, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

I’m not sure about this one.

Here’s our first trailer for Michael Sarnoski’s “The Death of Robin Hood,” which is coming to us from A24, and which stars Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer and Bill Skarsgård.

This is said to be a dark reimagining of the classic tale of Robin Hood. The film sees the title character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder—a battle-worn loner who finds himself gravely injured and in the care of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation.

“The Death of Robin Hood” is Sarnoski's first time shooting on 35mm film, which he says upped everyone's game. "There's a charge that it gives you — we're burning film right now, this is the real deal. There's something about being in real epic, scopey locations, shooting on film that feels like you're capturing something."

Production on this one wrapped in April 2025. This also marks Sarnoski coming off his previous effort, 2024’s A Quiet Place: Day One, which was his sophomore outing. His debut, 2021’s Pig, was an acclaimed pandemic-era indie starring Nicolas Cage.

After “The Death of Robin Hood” comes out, Sarnoski will dipping back into IP territory as he’s set to direct an adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s video game “Death Stranding” for A24.
