2026 BAFTA Nominations: ‘One Battle After Another’ (14 Noms) Leads ‘Sinners’ (13 Noms) ‘Hamnet’ (11) and ‘Marty Supreme’ (11)

January 27, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

BAFTA is a big deal if you follow the Oscar race. Last year, BAFTA members made up around half (325) of the UK Academy voters (650). There has definitely been a rise in the number of international voters in the Oscar race; the UK bloc is the largest, followed by various European countries. So, whoever wins might have an impact on the Oscars.

This year, strangely enough, going against annual tradition, Oscar nominations were announced before BAFTAS, lessening the excitement surrounding this morning’s announcement.

The ongoing rivalry between “One Battle After Another” and “Sinners” continued this morning, with the two films leading the BAFTA Film Award nominations—except this time, unlike with the Oscars, “One Battle After Another” (14) led by a single nod over “Sinners” (13). Just below them, “Hamnet” and “Marty Supreme” followed closely with 11 nominations each.

The best film and directing nominees are “One Battle After Another,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme,” “Sinners,” and “Sentimental Value” — all of which are currently the five most win-competitive titles for the Best Picture Oscar. As an added bonus, Yorgos Lanthimos (“Bugonia”) snuck into Best Director, which actually had six nominees.

The most notable BAFTA acting snub has got to be Amy Madigan (“Weapons”) not making supporting actress — she’s presumably Teyana Taylor’s toughest competition for the Oscar, yet the Brits completely ignored her. That’s not a good sign for her Oscar chances at all. If BAFTA — which often overlaps heavily with the Academy’s acting branch — couldn’t find room for her in a comparatively thin supporting actress lineup, it suggests her support may be much softer than assumed.

Yet again, Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice” was snubbed in the international film category—the same five Oscar-nominated titles were recognized by BAFTA. The British Academy also recognized Paul Mescal (“Hamnet”), O’Dessa A’zion (“Marty Supreme”), and Chase Infiniti (“One Battle After Another”), all of whom had been snubbed by the Oscars.

Meanwhile, Leonardo DiCaprio’s mention in the lead actor category now ties him with Daniel Day-Lewis, Michael Caine, and Laurence Olivier for the most BAFTA Best Actor nominations, with seven. Given the trajectory of his career, he’ll no doubt break the record within the next five years.

The winners will be announced at a February 22 ceremony in London hosted by actor Alan Cumming.
