Hey, I’m as surprised as you are. We already know the starry A-list ensemble that Christopher Nolan assembled for “The Odyssey,” but one name that had yet to be mentioned was suddenly dropped on us this afternoon.
Nolan fans got a big surprise when none other than rapper Travis Scott appeared in a new 30-second TV spot for “The Odyssey.” The footage aired during Fox’s broadcast of the NFL’s AFC Championship game.
Reaction to Scott’s involvement in the film has been polarized. His brief line delivery was criticized by some, but quite honestly, I doubt it’s a significant role he’s playing — he may just be appearing in a single scene. Who really knows.
Regardless, Scott and Nolan actually have a history. The rapper’s song, “The Plan,” is the theme track on the soundtrack for Nolan’s “Tenet.” “His voice became the final piece of a yearlong puzzle,” Nolan told GQ about the song. This also isn’t Scott’s first rodeo in cinema — a few years ago, he led Harmony Korine’s experimental infrared-shot “Aggro Dr1ft.”
As for who Scott actually plays in “The Odyssey,” that’s anybody’s guess. Some still don’t believe in the casting at all, thinking his appearance in the ad was an inside joke, or something similar. Alas, no — it’s very real, and we’ll have to contend with it, briefly or not, in the film.
Scott is — allegedly — part of a large cast for “The Odyssey,” which includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Samantha Morton, Bill Irwin, and Himesh Patel.
“The Odyssey” hits theaters July 17, 2026.
