DP Jarin Blaschke has confirmed, via his Facebook, that production on Robert Eggers’ “Werwulf,” which lasted a total of 77 days, wrapped in the UK this past week. This means Eggers has more than enough time to complete post-production—a little over 11 months, to be precise—as the film is set to hit theaters at the end of the year.
“Werwulf,” described as a gothic horror, stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson. The film is said to take place in 13th-century England, and as customary with all of Eggers’ films, will reportedly feature “old English,” or period-authentic dialogue.
The film, which was shot on 35mm film in 1.37:1 aspect ratio, is slated for a Christmas 2026 release via Focus Features. Eggers is coming off the immense success of “Nosferatu,” which was also unveiled during that time frame in 2024.
Eggers has described “Werwulf” as “the darkest thing I’ve ever written,” a bold claim given the unrelenting bleakness of his past work. One member of Eggers’ own sound team posted on BlueSky that he “needed a hug” after reading the script. If that’s any indication, “Werwulf” could make “The Witch” look like a bedtime story.
