This project is starting to pick up steam as more actors join what’s shaping up to be a strong ensemble .. Arnaud Desplechin’s next film, “The Things That Hurt,” has added Felicity Jones and Alfre Woodard to a cast that already includes Léa Seydoux, Jason Schwartzman, John Turturro, and Golshifteh Farahani.
The English-language film, with sprinkles of French added in, recently secured financing with Belgian money. The cast looks great, and with Desplechin being a mainstay at Cannes, we’ll likely see a 2027 premiere on the Croisette.
More curiously, the film has a handful of producers, one of whom is none other than Wes Anderson, which makes Schwartzman’s casting make a lot of sense. A spring 2026 production is expected for “The Things That Hurt.”
The film will “involve the patients of a recently deceased American psychotherapist, and their recollections of her.” Just a reminder: Desplechin’s best films include acclaimed work such as “A Christmas Tale,” “Kings and Queens,” and “My Golden Days.” His last film was one of his weaker efforts, “Two Pianos,” which had to settle with a TIFF world premiere last September.
