Tony Gilroy’s ‘Behemoth!’ Has Seven Different Composers: “Love Letter to the Music of Movies”

January 15, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

So, we know that Tony Gilroy’s upcoming film “Behemoth!,” housed at Searchlight, is currently filming — the cast includes Pedro Pascal, Olivia Wilde, Will Arnett, Eva Victor, and Matthew Lillard.

Pascal’s role in “Behemoth!” is that of a cellist who moves back to Los Angeles and decides to make music for movies. The film explores why he left and why he returned, delivered in a nonlinear, music-driven structure. The entire movie is told through music cues, which trigger flashbacks spanning the last 20 years.

With that music-centric story at its core, Film Music Reporter notes that Gilroy has hired a staggering seven composers to work on the film, including James Newton Howard (”The Hunger Games”) and, I can also confirm, Alan Silvestri (”Back to the Future,” “Forrest Gump”).

No word yet on who the other five composers are, but I would bet most are familiar names — I’ll update this post if I can find out who they are.

Gilroy has described the film as “a love letter to the music of the movies and the people who make it.” Production is scheduled to continue this month, with a potential fall 2026 release. Gilroy had been shopping the project to studios for over a year and expressed his frustration in May. Just a few weeks later, Searchlight acquired it.

It should be noted that Gilroy launched his directing career with one of the best debuts of the 21st century, “Michael Clayton” (2007). “Behemoth!” also comes four years after Gilroy achieved massive commercial and critical success with the Disney+ Star Wars series “Andor.”
