A Secret ‘The Odyssey’ Screening Fuels Claims Christopher Nolan Has Already Finished His Epic

January 11, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

Given that Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s “The Odyssey” was driven by tons of practical effects, including animatronics, it appears to be moving very fast into completion.

And so, six months before the film’s release comes the news (via Dark Horizons) that “it appears that Christopher Nolan has already finished The Odyssey.”

Just to give a refresher, the film shot for nearly eight months and wrapped in August 2025, giving it more than 11 months for post-production. If anything, based on crew accounts, the film was completed ahead of schedule, with a budget in the $250M range.

Furthermore, the site Nolan Analyst has sources informing them that the film had a secret screening at AMC Universal CityWalk in 70mm. Nolan, his wife/producer Emma Thomas, editor Jennifer Lame, and Universal boss Donna Langley were all present.

Of course, it seems unlikely the film is finished at this stage— yes, the film is filled with practical effects, but what was more likely shown was a rough cut with incomplete VFX, among other things. There’s just no way Nolan would put the film in the can this early in the process.

Nolan’s film has one of the most impressive casts in recent memory, including the likes of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal and Mia Goth. The film used brand-new, state-of-the-art IMAX cameras, with cinematography by Nolan’s go-to DP, Hoyte Van Hoytema.

In the meantime, “The Odyssey” is set for release on July 17th via Universal Pictures.
