No, you didn’t read that headline wrong. Comedian Bill Burr (“Old Dads”) has been added to the cast of Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming ‘Social Network’ sequel. According to THR’s sources, Burr’s role is said to be either entirely fictional or a composite of multiple figures.
The cast now includes Burr, Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong and Mikey Madison. Sorkin wrote the screenplay. Sony Pictures is backing. Filming is scheduled to take place from October 20 to December 10, 2025.
Madison will be playing Frances Haugen, the former Facebook product manager turned whistleblower who exposed the Facebook files, while White will portray Jeff Horowitz, the author of the Wall Street Journal piece. More curiously, Strong will take on the role of Facebook/Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, a part that Jesse Eisenberg, who famously played Zuckerberg in David Fincher’s “The Social Network,” opted not to reprise.
Sorkin, who won the screenplay Oscar for the 2010 original, will direct this one himself, which would represent a shift from the meticulous visual style Fincher brought. Sorkin has only directed three films so far (“Molly’s Game,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “Being the Ricardos”).
