Scott Derrickson is back in business. Blumhouse greenlit “The Black Phone 2” two years ago, a sequel to Derrickson’s 2022 surprise horror hit, and for what it was, that was a fairly decent horror movie, and a surprise box-office hit ($161M worldwide).
Coming off its trailer release, “The Black Phone 2” had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest over the weekend, and the reviews are pretty good, with many saying it’s better than the original. You can read the positive ink coming in from Slash Film, RogerEbert, Gizmodo, Slant Magazine, and Dexerto.
Set four years after the original, the sequel follows Mason, the Grabber’s sole known survivor, as his sister begins experiencing haunting visions of the killer from beyond the grave.
Along with Hawke, “Black Phone 2” also stars Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Demián Bichir, Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies, and Arianna Rivas. The film is set for release via Blumhouse on October 17.
