Are we really looking at another 10 years without another Andrea Arnold movie? Back in March, Arnold had confirmed that her next project would be the Scarlett Johansson–starring “Featherwood.” She was already deep into pre-production, scouting locations for the film. A grid on Production List even had it starting production in September.
In an interview with Anne Thompson, Johansson reaffirmed her willingness to get “Featherwood” made, but revealed that Andrea Arnold is no longer attached to direct. That’s too bad. Back to the drawing board, I guess.
“Featherwood” tells the story of Carol Blevins, a heroin addict and “Aryan Princess featherwood” (property of a gang member) who became one of the FBI’s most important informants during a six-year investigation into the murderous, neo-Nazi crime and drug syndicate known as the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas.
Arnold’s last film, “Bird,” starring Barry Keoghan and Franz Rogowski, premiered at last year’s Cannes before being released in December. It was her first feature since 2016’s “American Honey,” and proved to be the most divisive of her career. Arnold is the filmmaker behind acclaimed works such as “Fish Tank” and “Red Road.”
