Last month, cameras started rolling on Greta Gerwig’s “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.” with lavish post-war 1950s sets and crowds of extras filling the streets of London. This certainly wasn’t the same setting as the Victorian London of C.S. Lewis’ novel. Instead, it appears Gerwig has shifted the setting to the mid-20th century.
In a recent interview with Today (via NarniaWeb), Mark Ronson, British-American DJ, songwriter, and producer, revealed he’s “working on the music” for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming “Narnia.”
If true, this would mark Ronson’s second collaboration with Gerwig. The pair first teamed up on “Barbie,” where he co-composed the score alongside Andrew Wyatt. Ronson’s musical résumé also includes hits like “Uptown Funk” featuring Bruno Mars, Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie,” and he co-wrote the Oscar-winning “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born.”
That said, the scope of Ronson’s contributions to Gerwig’s Narnia adaptation remains unclear. Producer Amy Pascal’s cryptic comment last December—“It’s all about rock ‘n’ roll”—only adds to the intrigue. How radical will Gerwig’s Lewis adaptation be?
‘The Magician’s Nephew’ stars Digory Kirke, Polly Plummer, Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig is playing Uncle Andrew, Carey Mulligan is in negotiations for an undisclosed role, and Meryl Streep is expected to voice Aslan. Netflix, of course, has yet to officially confirm any of these names.
More recently, Netflix finalized a deal for “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew” to be unveiled in IMAX globally for Thanksgiving on November 26, 2026 before ultimately streaming on the platform on Christmas Day.
