A fresh scoop from TheInSneider is hinting that Matt Reeves’ Gotham is about to add a major new character in “The Batman: Part II.”
The script for the much-delayed sequel introduces none other than Robin, the Boy Wonder himself, into Robert Pattinson’s noir-tinged world. Sources describe the screenplay as a “big swing” and one that’ll be “worth the wait.” Cameras are now expected to roll in spring 2026, with a fall 2027 bow circled on the calendar.
If Reeves truly is bringing Robin into his grounded, crime-thriller take on Gotham, it’ll no doubt be a tonal gamble. Robin’s cinematic résumé is surprisingly sparse given his status in DC lore. Chris O’Donnell donned the mask for Joel Schumacher’s “Batman Forever” and the much-maligned “Batman & Robin.” Joseph Gordon-Levitt flirted with the role, sort of, in Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.”
Meanwhile, James Gunn’s DCU is brewing its own ‘Batman and Robin’ adventure, “The Brave and the Bold,” with Andy Muschietti directing, though casting remains under wraps, and the script is still being written. That project would have nothing to do with the universe Reeves has created.
It’s been quite the road for ‘The Batman 2.’ Originally unveiled at CinemaCon in 2022, the project has been bumped multiple times: first from October 2025 to October 2026, and now—finally?—to October 1, 2027.
Pattinson is locked in to return as Bruce Wayne, with Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright expected back as Alfred and Gordon. Reeves once again directs, this time co-writing with Mattson Tomlin.
Who will play Robin?
