After a long stretch of silence and mounting speculation, there’s some very positive movement on Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II.”
Back in May, I reported having heard whispers that Reeves’ sequel was aiming for a March 2026 shoot in London. Warner Bros CEO David Zaslav has now confirmed that it will indeed be shooting in “spring 2026.”
For months now, chatter from trades and online circles had circled the project like vultures — delays, and rumors of cancellation. The sequel, once eyed for 2025 release, and then 2026, is now slated for October 1, 2027.
Last month, Reeves confirmed he had officially submitted the screenplay. Mattson Tomlin, who quietly contributed rewrites to the 2022 film, is now receiving official credit this time around, joining Reeves on scripting duties for Part II.
Naturally, story details are being kept under wraps. Robert Pattinson is locked in to return, and much of the original ensemble is expected to be back in the mix: Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. Barry Keoghan, whose brief Joker cameo sparked countless theories, is widely rumored to have a larger role this time, though nothing has been made official.
The first film debuted in 2022, to strong reviews and box office, but its sequel has faced several production delays since. Reeves originally envisioned a full ‘Batman’ trilogy—writing and directing each instalment. It sure sounds like that is still the plan.
The sequel was officially announced at CinemaCon in April 2022, and that’s also when Reeves started writing The script. It took him four years to finally finish it. Look for casting announcements to happen in the next few months.
