Osgood Perkins’ ‘The Young People’ to Star Lola Tung and Nico Parker — Neon to Distribute

August 28, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: Some additional details were unveiled today. Neon is yet again attached to Perkins’ next film — their fourth straight collaboration together.

Additionally, Lola Tung (“The Summer I Turned Pretty”) and Nico Parker (“The Last Of Us”) will be playing the two leads, high school girls.

EARLIER: Whether you like him or not, Osgood Perkins isn’t slowing down. The man is on a frenetic pace, shooting a film every year, sometimes twice a year.

I’m hearing Perkins has set up his next project, “The Young People,” which will take place in a middle school. A shoot in early October in Canada has been scheduled. Curiously, Neon — which has distributed his last three films — isn’t attached just yet; this one is an independent production.

“The Young People” follows Sue, who befriends a new classmate named Kitty. At first everything seems perfect, but soon Kitty begins to behave strangely and troubling red flags emerge. No casting details for now, but don’t expect big names, especially for the two leads.

Perkins’ next film, “Keeper,” his second release this year after “The Monkey,” is slated to hit theaters on November 14. So yes, we’re getting two Osgood Perkins movies in 2025 — and probably another one in 2026.

To say “Longlegs” broke out Perkins would be an understatement. That Neon-produced film was made for less than $10 million and ended up grossing an impressive $127 million worldwide. Neon also backed his next two films, but for now, they don’t seem to be involved with “The Young People.”

Before becoming a household name in the genre, Perkins made his debut with 2015’s “The Blackcoat’s Daughter,” followed by the stylish “Gretel & Hansel” in 2020.

Perkins shows no signs of slowing down, and if his track record is any indication, “The Young People” will probably be made for under $10M. Fans of unsettling horror will be watching closely
