We have our first posters for Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” which is set to world premiere at Venice next week and will screen at TIFF in September. No Telluride and NYFF for del Toro’s latest.
This one has been dated for streaming, November 7. It also finally has a theatrical date, October 17, as Netflix probably wants it eligible for Oscar consideration, at the very least for below the line categories. I don’t know what to make of this film, which has a runtime of 150 minutes — we’ll have a clearer picture ten days from now.
Del Toro’s “Frankenstein” boasts a rich, character-driven cast, the likes of Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz are front and center, with a strong supporting ensemble that includes Lars Mikkelsen, Ralph Ineson, and Charles Dance. It’s one of three Netflix films in Venice competition, the other two are Noah Baumbach’s “Jay Kelly” and Kathryn Bigelow’s “A House of Dynamite.”
