According to Amazon/MGM, last week’s trailer for “Project Hail Mary” had a total of 400M views, counting all platforms, which makes it a record for an “original” film, one which is only set to hit screens in March 2026.
The trailer has indeed been very popular—widely watched across YouTube uploads, social media, and sparking intense fan conversation (some excited, some cautious about spoilers). It’s clear the marketing is hitting its target, grabbing attention from sci‑fi fans and broader audiences alike.
On Amazon/MGM’s official YouTube channel alone, the film’s trailer has already racked up over 18M views—strong early signs that the studio could have a hit on its hands. It certainly doesn’t hurt that Andy Weir’s source novel, released in May 2021, has sold more than one million copies worldwide.
Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (“21 Jump Street”), the film, which stars Ryan Gosling and Sandra Huller, tackles a lone astronaut who wakes up with amnesia on a spaceship light-years from Earth. As his memories return, he realizes he’s humanity’s last hope to stop an extinction-level event.
