It wouldn’t be a big-budget fantasy production without delays, and now it looks like Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ adaptation of “The Magician’s Nephew” is the latest to hit a scheduling snag.
According to ScreenDaily, the cameras might not start rolling until sometime this autumn—despite a July start having been previously eyed.
Producer Amy Pascal had confidently announced a summer shoot, and a casting call for child actors even backed that up, citing June through December availability, including rehearsals. However, NarniaWeb, the franchise’s unofficial watchdog, has been sniffing out red flags suggesting things may not be going according to plan.
While ScreenDaily’s report adds weight to the growing speculation, there’s still a sliver of optimism that production could kick off sooner rather than later.
Gerwig’s ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew,” backed by Netflix, is eyeing a Thanksgiving 2026 theatrical debut in partnership with IMAX —marking the streamer’s first exclusive window of this kind— before it inevitably lands on Netflix just in time for Christmas streaming.
That date is looking increasingly ambitious if the shoot doesn’t get underway soon. They were eyeing for seven months of shooting on this film, so time is surely running out to hit that November release date.
Gerwig’s upcoming film has assembled a high-profile cast, which includes Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep, and Daniel Craig. Frequent Gerwig collaborator Saoirse Ronan is also rumored to join the ensemble, though her role remains under wraps.
