Oh, boy. Here comes Eli Roth, a director best known for his contributions to the torture-porn genre, apparently deciding that Greta Thunberg should be cannibalized.
A screenshot making the rounds (first flagged by AShotMagazine) reportedly shows Roth responding to Greta Thunberg’s detention by the Israeli military—after she tried to bring aid to Gaza by boat—by saying, “She needs to be eaten by cannibals.”
Of all the gruesome deaths Roth has concocted in his films, which includes eye slicing and flesh rotting, he’s decided to settle on cannibalism for poor Greta, a fate infamously depicted in his 2013 film “The Green Inferno.”
Roth doubled down in another post—again, reportedly from his Instagram stories—saying, “If you posted Greta’s antisemitic propaganda, you are dead to me.”
Of course, much hate is now being aimed at Roth’s direction. The backlash was inevitable. Any filmmaker delving into the political climate these days, especially concerning what’s going on in the middle east, will be met with heated vitriol.
Meanwhile, Spyglass Media, the studio behind Roth’s “Thanksgiving” franchise, and the upcoming sequel, recently booted actress Melissa Barrera from “Scream 7” over an Instagram story concerning Gaza.
Back to Roth, he’s coming off the nadir of his career, “Borderlands,” which I’m surprised he hasn’t disowned yet considering he was replaced by Tim Miller for extensive reshoots that touched up nearly half the movie.
Roth does have a “Thanksgiving” sequel coming up — the original, for some reason, was the best reviewed film of his career. I much preferred 2002’s “Cabin Fever,” still his best work, hell even “Hostel” was better, but that’s just my own humble opinion
