M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Remain’ Sets October 2026 Release via Warner Bros

May 8, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Warner Bros. has scheduled M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming supernatural romantic thriller, “Remain,” for release on October 23, 2026. Given the director’s existing partnership with the studio, it was widely anticipated that his next project would land there.

Shyamalan is teaming up with the sultan of sentimental tearjerkers, Nicholas Sparks, for a film (and novel). The book is scheduled to drop this fall. Sparks wrote the book while Shyamalan was simultaneously whipping up a screenplay.

The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Pheobe Dynevor. No actual official plot details were revealed in today’s announcement, but if Shyamalan is faithful to the book, this will, in all likelihood, be the synopsis:

“The story follows Tate Donovan, a New York architect trying to rebuild his life after a psychiatric stay triggered by his sister’s death. Seeking a fresh start, he heads to Cape Cod to design a summer home for his best friend. But things don’t go as planned—especially after he meets Wren, a mysterious young woman who upends his orderly, logic-driven world.”

“Remain” will start production on June 16 in Rhode Island. Shyamalan will be working with a new DP on this one as Adolpho Veloso, who shot the acclaimed “Train Dreams,” which premiered this past January at Sundance, is billed as the cinematographer.

Last year, Shyamalan’s “Trap” grossed $83M against a production budget of $30M. It helps that the filmmaker self-finances every film he makes, which is probably no different with “Remain”; Warner Bros would only be hopping on board this one as a distributor.

It should be noted that Jordan Peele’s next film also releases on the same date as “Remain,” but I doubt that one actually keeps itsdate since I’ve heard Peele hasn’t even submitted a draft of his script yet to Universal.
