Armie Hammer is not working with the Safdie brothers—despite what his Instagram might be trying to manifest into reality.
On Monday, the actor posted what looked like a movie poster for a film titled “Persona Non Grata,” allegedly directed by Josh and Benny Safdie, with the ever-hopeful caption: “Fall 2026.” The only problem? The movie doesn’t exist.
Variety is confirming that not only is this project completely fake, but sources close to the Safdies are reportedly “dumbfounded” by Hammer’s bizarre attempt at cinematic fan fiction.
Hammer, best known for “The Social Network” and “Call Me By Your Name,” is still clawing for a comeback. After a small-screen return alongside William H. Macy in “Frontier Crucible”, he’s now slated to appear in Uwe Boll’s “Citizen Vigilante.”
So why pretend he’s part of a buzzy Safdie project? Let’s not overthink it: attention is currency, and Hammer’s account is running low.
Hammer previously opened up about the “brutal experience” he endured when sexual assault allegations against him surfaced, saying he had been “canceled” and left “broke.” By 2023, the once-rising Hollywood star had gone from leading roles to working a desk job as a concierge at a hotel in the Cayman Islands.
This past January, Hammer mentioned how his career had suddenly picked up steam, and that he no longer felt canceled, to the point where he was starting to turn down roles due to his busy schedule. A few days later, it was revealed that Hammer would star in Uwe Boll’s next film.
