Box-Office Thursday: ‘Lilo & Stitch’ $9M, ‘Mission: Impossible 8 $4.3M, ‘Karate Kid’ $2.3M

May 30, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Another Thursday in the books, and we’ve got some movement at the box office — some of it promising, some not quite living up to early potential.

Disney’s Lilo & Stitch pulled in an estimated $9.2M Thursday, bringing its domestic cume to $217M. It’s holding relatively well, especially compared to other recent live-action Disney remakes. That said, despite its strong reviews and early reception, the film now seems unlikely to hit the once-plausible $500M+ domestic milestone. The momentum just isn’t quite there, which feels like a bit of a missed opportunity considering the opening it had.

Meanwhile, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is quietly overperforming. The film notched over $4.3M on Thursday, crossing the $100M mark in the process. What’s notable here is that it’s now outpacing MI7 in daily earnings — a film that had the clear advantage of a summer weekday release window. Pre-release expectations were mixed, but this one looks like it’ll comfortably pass its predecessor’s lifetime haul and has a solid shot at topping $200M domestic.

Finally, Karate Kid: Legends debuted with $2.3M in Thursday previews. Early word from audiences? Not bad. Nothing too buzzy, but not toxic either. Projections are pointing toward a $20M opening weekend — respectable, though not exactly earth-shattering. The film cost $45M to produce.
