Two weeks ago, I reported that “Batman Forever: The Schumacher Cut” was set to screen at an L.A. theater on Thursday, May 29. Unfortunately, there’s been an update — and it’s not good news.
The planned screening of the ‘Schumacher Cut’ has been canceled. Warner Bros. reportedly issued a cease-and-desist letter to Cinefile Video, effectively shutting down the event and stopping the film from being shown to ticket holders.
This version of “Batman Forever,” clocking in at around 2 hours and 38 minutes, is said to feature a more deliberate pace and a deeper dive into the film’s psychological themes. While it remains in rough-cut form — still needing work on visual effects and a completed score — fans were hoping this would be the beginning of a long-overdue release. Now, we’re left waiting on Warner Bros. to finally pull the trigger and release the damn thing.
“Hope,” Na’s first film in ten years — his last one being the exemplary “The Wailing” —is a gloriously messy, blood-soaked sci-fi epic that may become a cult classic despite—or because of—its polarizing nature.
