Kristen Stewart Exits Albert Serra’s ‘Out of This World’

March 10, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Last December, Albert Serra’s next film was announced, it’s called “Out of This World” and set to be his English-language debut.

The project, which finds Serra tackling the Russia/U.S. rivalry, was supposed to star Kristen Stewart in the lead role, but the filmmaker is now telling Catalan general radio rac1 that Stewart has dropped out of the project.

Serra claims that Stewart had initially agreed to be part of the film, but then changed her mind when he made some changes to the original idea of the script, which turned her off.

Serra adds that an actress “similar” to Stewart would be replacing the actress, and that there will be “famous actors from Hollywood” sprinkled in the ensemble. A summer 2025 shoot is being eyed on the film, although nothing has been signed just yet because, according to Serra, the “Americans keep emailing legal documents” to him.

“Out of this World” is said to tackle ann American delegation that travels to Russia in the midst of the Ukrainian war to try to find a solution to an economic dispute linked to sanctions. The film is described as exploring “the eternal rivalry between Russia and the USA.”

Serra’s works include “The Death of Louis XI,” and “Liberté,” two impenetrable, but painterly statements. However, his last two films have been very impressive. After the critical acclaim that greeted “Pacifiction” at Cannes 2022, Serra premiered his incredible bullfighting doc “Afternoons of Solitude” last year. It went on to win the top prize at San Sebastian.
