James Cameron has decided that the best thing to do in between making “Avatar” movies is not to work on “Last Train to Hiroshima,” which still doesn’t have a script, but rather to direct a Billie Eilish concert in 3D.
No, really. The film has been officially announced, titled “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” with Paramount’s backing. It’s expected to hit theaters on March 20, 2026. 3D glasses are mandatory.
The concert movie was filmed during Eilish’s four-show Manchester stop of her “Hit Me Hard and Soft” world tour, which supports her third studio album of the same name. All four nights were captured by Cameron. Eilish co-directed the film with him.
I’m not dismissing this project in the slightest. Concert films can absolutely rise to the level of great cinema — the twin peaks of the genre are Jonathan Demme’s “Stop Making Sense” and Martin Scorsese’s “The Last Waltz.” What are the odds this turns out to be great?
