Kendrick Lamar & ‘South Park’ Duo’s Slave-Comedy Pulled From Paramount’s 2026 Release Slate

November 21, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

What is going on with this movie?

Kendrick Lamar, along with South Park co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, shot a film in 2024. The mysterious project was said to be a “slave comedy” set in California. The rest of the cast includes Chloe East and Celeste Octavia.

Paramount had set up a theatrical release for July 4, 2025, and then it was pushed to March 2026. Apparently, the main reason for the delay was that the movie was not done, which corroborated previous intel that there were significant rewrites on this film.

Here we are, five months before its apparent release, and the film has yet again been delayed by Paramount. Not just that — it’s now officially off the calendar. The excuse this time around is that Lamar is too busy touring, and Stone/Parker are too busy on the new season of “South Park.”

This film has had quite the turbulent history. Rewrites definitely occurred, and they were major enough to have significantly altered the originally announced plot. The film was supposed to tackle “a young Black man who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum and discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.”

There have been a few rumors circulating about this film, including that it would be going straight to streaming on Paramount+ and that it was titled “Whitney Springs.” Regardless, and despite the delays, don’t be surprised if it doesn’t get released next year.

Besides their work on “South Park,” Stone and Parker are best known for the Broadway hit The Book of Mormon, as well as features such as Team America: World Police and South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.

Given all the uncertainty, it remains unclear whether the project will ultimately see the light of day, but its unusual premise and the creative team behind it ensure that interest will remain high, should it ever resurface on Paramount’s schedule.
