Glen Powell Reveals He Passed On New ‘Jurassic World’ and ‘Bourne' Movies

May 22, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Glen Powell is everywhere these days. His success on “Top Gun: Maverick”, and the rom-com “Anyone But You,” has opened many doors for him. Just this summer, he has “Twisters” and “Hit Man” hitting theaters. He’s also set to star in new films by JJ Abrams and Edgar Wright.

A THR profile zeroing in on Powell’s ascension tackles his recent career success, as well as upcoming films. And it appears that he’s actually turned down a few major projects that he could have starred in.

Powell admits that he turned down a recent offer to lead a new ‘Bourne Identity’ film. And second, he’s turned down the chance to star in the upcoming ‘Jurassic Park’ reboot, which will star Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey. Was Powell offered the Bailey role?

‘Jurassic’ is one of my favorite movies. It’s one of the things I’ve wanted to do my whole life. I’m not doing that movie because I read the script and I immediately was like, my presence in this movie doesn’t help it.

He added, “And the script’s great. The movie’s going to fucking kill. It’s not about that. It’s about choosing where you’re going to make an audience happy and where you’re going to make yourself happy.”

Powell claims that he has no interest in Marvel films, and Oscar bait projects. I don’t, for a second, believe his assertion that Oscar vehicles are off the table for him because, quite frankly, what exactly constitutes “Oscar bait” in 2024?

Speaking of, yesterday it was reported that Powell was going to star in a remake of “Heaven Can Wait,” yes, the 1978 Warren Beatty film, with Stephen Gaghan hired to pen the screenplay. It’s just one of many projects that keep piling up for him.
