Ben Wheatley to Direct Bob Odenkirk in Action Film ‘Normal’

February 8, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”) has re-teamed with “Nobody” scribe Derek Kolstad (John Wick 4) on a new action movie titled “Normal.” Ben Wheatley (Meg 2: The Trench, Free Fire, High Rise) is set as director.

Here’s the synopsis (via Deadline):

The script, written by Kolstad (John Wick franchise, Nobody), follows Ulysses (Odenkirk), who is thrust into the temporary role of the sheriff for the small sleepy town Normal after the previous one’s untimely death. When the town’s bank is robbed by an out-of-town couple, Ulysses arrives on the scene to find that the town is hiding much more sinister deep-seated secrets under its surface and everyone – from the bartender to the priest – is in on it. And now Ulysses, who’s up-till-now focused only on running away from the demons of his past, must uncover the full extent of this criminal conspiracy.

Wheatley is coming off the pandemic era horror flick “In the Earth,” which, sort of, half-assedly, was an attempt to go back to his indie cinematic roots (“KIll List” and “A Field in England”). Wheatley needs a good movie, he’s been rather off lately with his last three films: “In the Earth,” “Meg 2,” and his misbegotten Netflix remake of “Rebecca.”
